2014 ~ Competition Finals Judges

Dr. Njema Frazier- Dr. Frazier is currently Director of the International Program Management Division for National Security Science and Technology Office of Research and Development within the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). She has previously served as a Professional Staff Member for the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Science and as National Board Chairmen for the National Society of Black Engineers- Alumni Extension. Dr. Frazier earned her Ph.D. in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from Michigan State University.

M.C. Hammer- Hammer is founder and CEO of WireDoo: a search engine that adds relational information to search results. For example, a search for the word “car” on WireDoo would produce topics related to a car, including insurance, pricing and consumer safety ratings. Hammer is involved in the Silicon Valley entrepreneurship community, and is also an angel investor in a number of start-ups. He serves on the UCM Board of Trustees.

John Cabeca – Mr.Cabeca is the Director of the Silicon Valley United States Patent and Trademark Office. With 25 years of experience in the U.S. Patent and Trade Office, he has conducted special assignment for the Office of the President in the United States Trade Representative’s Office for Intellectual Property and Innovation and played a crucial role in Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the Republic of Korea. Mr. Cabeca earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Widener University.

Scott Hunter – Hunter is the Chairman and owner of Hunter Farms, based in Livingston, Calif. He serves as a Director, and is a past Chairman of the Almond Board of California, in addition he is a member of the Almond Board’s Environmental Committee at the Almond Board of California's Environmental Stewardship Tour.

Dr. Kristina Johnson- Johnson is CEO of Enduring Hydro LLC: a company that provides consulting services, investment, development, and modernization of hydroelectric facilities. She recently served as Under Secretary of Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy in which she played a vital role in reducing our dependence on imported oil by 75%. She has received numerous recognitions and was awarded the John Fritz Medal, the highest award given in the engineering profession. Johnson will be UC Merced’s 2014 commencement speaker for the School of Natural Sciences and Engineering.

Greg Millar – Millar is Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Schneider Electric’s Solutions and Technology Office and a member of the UC Merced Engineering Advisory Board. He joined Pelco-Schneider after founding three venture-backed firms in Silicon Valley.  He studied engineering at UC Davis, executive leadership management at INSEAD, and is a Partner at Millar Ranch.

Tom Peterson – Prior to his current service as UC Merced’s Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, Dr. Peterson was the assistant director of the Engineering Directorate at the National Science Foundation, the major agency funding for engineering education and research.  He was the former dean of the University of Arizona College of Engineering.
