Judges - 2020 Fall

Judge Role

  • No formal preparation is requested before the event.  

  • An engineering degree is not required for judging in the competition.

  • The contribution is based on who can provide valuable feedback based on their experience.

  • Judges fill out a questionnaire (judge scorecard) based on the presentation and Q&A.  

  • The judge questionnaire is provided in the email with the judging assignment, and also available as a QR code in the event track introduction, and a web link in the zoom chat.

 

How to sign up for judging

To indicate your interest in judging, please check the box while registering:

  • Register here!
  • Select "Yes" in "Interested in Judging? *
  • You will be contacted by the I2G Team about the Track or Teams to judge

You can also express your interest in judging for Innovate to Grow for the current or future events by contacting our I2G team at:   innovatetogrow@ucmerced.edu.

 

Event Day | Instructions for Judges |  I2G Online

 

WHEN:          Friday, December 18, 2020 - 11:30-2:30 PM PDT      SCHEDULE 

(Presentations start promptly at 11:30 - please arrive as early as 11:15 to find and enter the desired track.)

1- ZOOM preparation 

  • If you do not have experience with Zoom meetings, please make yourself familiar with joining, chat for Q&A, audio / video settings, etc.

  • If you do not have a confirmed Zoom account, you may sign up here for Zoom prior to the event.

  • If your Zoom Name appears different than your registration name, please be prepared to change your name to your First and Last Name or to indicate it in the chat when you join a Room, to enable identification in Rooms

  • You may review the current teams and project summaries.

 

2- EVALUATION FORM preparation:  prior to judging, open the I2G evaluation form of the Class you are judging (in a browser window, or on your mobile device).  The form appropriate for the class that you are judging in the email with the judging assignment, and also available as a QR code in the event track introduction, and a web link in the zoom chat.

Please notice:

  • Make sure that the form indicates the Class you are judging (Engineering Capstone, Eng. Service Learning, or Software Engineering Capstone).

  • Complete the submission of a team evaluation before starting the next evaluation, or the form may not restart to new.

  • If the browser hangs or crashes, and you reopen the form, you may need to complete the previous response.

  • If you need to complete a form to reset it, make sure you make a note in the comments section to disregard this entry.

 

3- REVIEW ASSIGNMENT

 

4- JOIN ZOOM ROOM 

  • Sign in Zoom with your authenticated Zoom account

  • Search the Track you have been assigned to judge on 

  • Join the assigned Zoom Room at innovatetogrow.ucmerced.edu

  • If your Zoom Name appears different than your registration name, please indicate your First and Last Name that when you join a Room, to enable identification in Rooms

  • You will be admitted to the Room, and allowed to submit Questions via Chat.

 

5- SUBMIT EVALUATIONS 

  • Use the evaluation form for each team you judge (notice instructions above)

  • Please complete all evaluations ASAP at the end of the presentations (by 2:35):  the Professors of each class will compile the results to prepare the Award Winners by 3:30.

 

Important notes on Zoom accounts and Rooms:

  • If you plan to join a Zoom Room, you will need an authenticated Zoom account: that is, one that is linked to your email address and approved by clicking the email confirmation.  

  • If you do not have a confirmed Zoom account, you may sign up here for Zoom

  • Depending on registrations and availability in the room, it may take a moment to gain access, so plan to be a  innovatetogrow.ucmerced.edu  and join 15 minutes before start (11:15)

  • Final links to Zoom rooms, schedule of teams, and evaluation forms will be available before I2G starts at: innovatetogrow.ucmerced.edu
